aschaffenburg, germany - Aschaffenburg mourns stabbing incident that resulted in two deaths, including a 2-year-old child, with a commemoration ceremony and expressed concerns over rising violence.

Stabbing Incident in Aschaffenburg

A commemoration ceremony took place in Aschaffenburg following a stabbing incident that claimed the lives of two individuals, including a 2-year-old child. The authorities arrested a 28-year-old Afghan suspect shortly after the attack, whose asylum application had been terminated.

Mayor Jürgen Herzing warned of a 'spiral of violence and hatred' during the commemoration, drawing parallels to a recent deadly attack in Magdeburg. He emphasized that a refugee should not be held responsible for the actions of an individual.

Three people were injured in the incident, including a 2-year-old Syrian girl with neck injuries. Chancellor Olaf Scholz labeled the incident as a terror act and called for clarification on why the suspect was still in Germany.

Authorities are investigating the motives of the suspect, who is reported to have had psychological problems. Police presence remains high in Aschaffenburg to provide support to the community and ensure public safety.
