- Former President Trump announces the reinstatement of Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization after Biden administration delisted them.

President Trump's Decision

Former President Trump has issued a presidential decree to reinstate the Houthi rebels in Yemen as a 'foreign terrorist organization'.

According to Trump, the group was removed from the list by the Biden administration shortly after taking office, but due to their activities spreading terror, especially attacks on ships in the Red Sea, they needed to be added back.

The U.S. State Department is expected to officially add the Houthis back to the terrorist list within 30 days following the decree.

Biden Administration's Previous Decision

Former U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken had announced the delisting of the Houthi group from the foreign terrorist organization list, effective February 16, 2021, due to the worsening humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

The Houthis were initially added to the foreign terrorist organization list during the final days of the Trump administration.
