stuttgart, germany - The trial of Suleimann A. for fatally stabbing a police officer and injuring others begins in Stuttgart-Stammheim.

Radicalized Afghan on Trial for Deadly Attack

The trial of Suleimann A. (26), who fatally stabbed a policeman in Mannheim and targeted a right-wing activist, begins in the high-security prison of Stuttgart-Stammheim. The prosecutor describes the act as an attack on democracy and freedom of speech.

In a departure from its usual inmates, the notorious prison complex is now hosting Suleimann A., who arrived in Germany as a 14-year-old refugee and later pledged allegiance to the Taliban and ISIS. This marks a significant shift from the left-wing extremist RAF terrorists previously tried there to the current rise in cases involving right-wing extremists accused of plotting coups.

The deliberate attack on a demonstration by the Islam-critical group Pax Europa, captured on video, sent shockwaves across Germany. This incident, along with other recent acts of violence, has heightened concerns over radicalization and security in the country.

Prosecutor Verena Bauer, specializing in political extremism and State Protection, emphasizes the significance of Officer Rouven Laur's sacrifice in defending societal values. The defendant, described as a 'likable young man' by his lawyer, entered the courtroom amidst intense media attention.
