kabul - The Taliban has issued a new decree stating that buildings cannot have windows overlooking areas where women are often present, citing concerns of inappropriate behavior.

The new decree by the Taliban's top leader prohibits the construction of windows in new buildings that overlook locations where women are frequently found. The statement highlighted that observing women working in kitchens, courtyards, or fetching water from wells could lead to indecent acts. The declaration was shared on social media by a Taliban spokesperson.

Existing buildings are also required to prevent windows from being used to view women, with suggestions such as building a wall or covering the window. Local authorities are instructed to carry out checks on new constructions to ensure that it is not possible to peek inside neighboring properties.

Since the Taliban seized power in 2021, they have been progressively restricting women's freedoms. A recent law banned women from singing or reciting poetry in public, and some radio and television stations no longer broadcast women's voices.
