brienz, switzerland - Swiss authorities report that the village of Brienz is facing a significant landslide threat, prompting preparations for an evacuation.

The Swiss village of Brienz is facing a major threat from a massive landslide, with local authorities preparing for an evacuation. Approximately 1.2 million cubic meters of rocks could come crashing down from the valley and reach the village.

Residents have been alerted that they may have to leave their homes, and in the worst-case scenario, they might not be able to return for the first few months. No set date has been announced for the evacuation.

The rocks are currently moving at a speed of around 25 centimeters per day, but this speed could increase to 80 kilometers per hour or more due to factors like rainfall, as explained to residents by a geologist during an information session.

In June 2023, Brienz narrowly avoided significant damage from a sudden landslide. The rocks came close to hitting a school and covered meadows and a road.
