German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his potential successor Friedrich Merz have reiterated their stance of ruling out any collaboration with the far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD).

Scholz stated that his Social Democratic Party (SPD) will never find common ground with the far-right, accusing Merz of breaking his promise by recently accepting a motion on migration with AfD's support. Established parties had previously excluded AfD from decision-making processes.

Merz, the CDU/CSU chancellor candidate, emphasized that cooperation with AfD is off the table, blaming Scholz's coalition government for fueling AfD's rise. He criticized the coalition for implementing 'leftist policies against the will of the people'.

Opinion polls suggest that the Christian Democratic bloc CDU/CSU could secure 30% of the votes in the upcoming elections. AfD, with 22% support, may become the country's second-largest party, followed by SPD at 15.5%.
