smolyan, bulgaria - A significant landslide on the Smolyan-Pamporovo highway in Bulgaria has caused road closure, with trees and power lines swept away. Gas and electricity cut off for safety.

Major Landslide in Bulgaria Causes Road Closure

A massive landslide occurred on the Smolyan-Pamporovo highway in Bulgaria, leading to the closure of a section of the road. Dozens of trees and power poles were uprooted during the event.

Damage and Impact

Authorities reported serious cracks on the asphalt surface, prompting a halt in traffic. The landslide caused a 60-meter section of the road to collapse, completely blocking the Pamporovo-Smolyan route.

Infrastructure Affected

The natural gas pipeline in the area was damaged, resulting in the suspension of gas supply and electricity for safety reasons. Additionally, a nearby abandoned building is at risk of collapsing due to foundation damage.

Continued Risk and Response

Experts are monitoring the area for ongoing ground movements and potential further collapses. Drivers have been redirected to alternative routes as authorities work on stabilizing the ground before reopening the road.
