Hungary's New Prime Minister Controversially Appoints Brother-in-Law as Justice Minister

Peter Magyar, who campaigned on cleaning up Hungarian politics and revitalizing the weakened system under former Prime Minister Viktor Orban's 16-year rule, has stirred controversy by appointing his brother-in-law as the justice minister.

Defending His Decision

In a 6-minute video statement on social media, Magyar defended his choice, highlighting his brother-in-law's career, qualifications, and transparency in decision-making.

Magyar acknowledged concerns over nepotism within the government, stating that his sister would make sacrifices by stepping down from her judicial position. He is expected to assume office on May 9.
