Details of the Incident
The woman had been on a KLM flight from Johannesburg to Amsterdam shortly before the death of a 69-year-old Dutch woman from Hantavirus. Following the incident, the crew member was quarantined, tested for the virus, and awaiting results.
Precautionary Measures
The RIVM states that the incubation period for Hantavirus can range from a few days to up to 60 days. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely as the infected individuals are being treated.
Outbreak on MV Hondius Ship
Reports suggest that passengers from the MV Hondius ship, suspected of Hantavirus transmission, were evacuated at Schiphol Airport. The situation escalated with cases emerging on the ship and subsequent evacuations to different destinations.
The ship, which departed from Argentina on April 1st and reached the waters near Cape Verde on May 3rd, reported 7 cases and 3 fatalities. The first case, a Dutch male passenger, passed away on April 11th, with his body remaining on the ship until April 24th.
