valencia - The southeast of Spain is being ravaged by heavy rainfall, causing severe flooding. At least 205 people have already died, with potentially thousands still missing.

The first thought was that the rain above Valencia was not as severe anymore, which led to the region receiving a yellow alert on Friday night. However, the national weather service Aemet had to revise that decision. The Balearic Islands, Catalonia, and the Valencian Community were put on code orange alert.

In the Valencia region, in the east of Spain, around 1,900 people are still reported missing. This information was reported by the Spanish news site El Diario, based on the authorities' crisis center. So far, 600 people who were reported missing after the disaster have been located. Of the 200+ deceased, 39 victims have been identified.

Local hospitals are currently overwhelmed with patients and are at risk of collapsing, as stated on Friday night during a press conference with Spanish Minister of Interior Fernando Grande-Marlaska and Carlos Mazón, the head of the regional government in Valencia.

The Ministry of Defense will deploy an additional 1,000 troops in the affected areas. On Friday, 750 extra soldiers joined the 1,200 already on the ground. Yesterday, the Spanish Prime Minister requested 500 more troops, but now they will be receiving 1,000 extra.
