tel aviv - The future of Gaza remains uncertain as Israel and Hamas negotiate a deal. Read on for more details.

Outgoing U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken presented his vision for Gaza on Tuesday, hoping that Trump will take the reins next week. Some criticize Blinken's timing, fearing his proposals could undermine a Gaza deal. However, the plan aligns with long-standing calls for a transitional phase involving Arab states, culminating in a reformed Palestinian Authority-led administration.

This last point has been unacceptable to Benjamin Netanyahu, as it challenges his efforts to prevent the formation of a Palestinian state by keeping Gaza and the West Bank separate. Trump is exerting pressure to reach an agreement, even on Israel. Colonists and ultranationalists who celebrated Trump's victory are now questioning his intentions on Palestinian annexation.

Hamas, along with mediators Egypt and Qatar, have faced pressure to strike a deal, though Netanyahu's stance remains tough. Nevertheless, he recently had a Saturday meeting requested by Trump's Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, where Netanyahu had to compromise on key security demands.

A journalist close to Netanyahu lamented that Israel is the first to pay the price for Trump's victory, feeling the deal is forced upon them. Israel's government is clear on what it doesn't want (Hamas or Palestinian Authority rule), but uncertain about its own plan. Ideas range from annexation to non-Hamas rule, both seemingly impractical.

The path forward involves talks on Gaza's future, potentially led by an interim Palestinian government overseen by a committee including the U.S., Egypt, and the UAE. Most countries, including the Gulf states, urge Palestinian Authority involvement for state formation prospects. A peace deal with Saudi Arabia may also be in sight.

Trump's track record on Israel-UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco deals suggests potential for an 'Jerusalem to Mecca' agreement. Netanyahu faces tough decisions ahead.
