The population of Moldova on Sunday went to the polls to elect a new president directly for the first time in twenty years. The authorities in the capital Chisinau announced after the close of the polling stations at 20:00 local time the election is quietly expired. They estimated the turnout at about 50 percent. The country has 3.5 million inhabitants.
The demonstrations in Moldova to stop the current regime. In the capital Chisinau on Sunday some 40 thousand people protested. The protesters are demanding early elections.
At the parliament building in the Moldovan capital Chisinau is Wednesday chaotic protests erupted. After the majority of MPs had given her blessing to a new government led by newly elected Prime Minister Pavel Filip, an angry mob stormed the building. The riot police responded with tear gas, among other things, reported Russian media.
