UNHCR involved in Rohingya return

The repatriation of refugee Rohingya from Bangladesh to Myanmar takes place with the assistance of the UN refugee organization UNHCR and starts in two months.

Bangladesh and Myanmar have agreed on the UNHCR's involvement in the return, as Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali said on Saturday.

More than 600,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh since the end of August for fear of military violence in the state of Rakhine, where most members of this population were living. The UN spoke of 'ethnic cleansing' by the army of Myanmar.

Myanmar and Bangladesh signed a letter of intent on Thursday about the return of the Muslim minority.
