Money after expulsion for Buddha tattoo

A woman who had been deprived of Sri Lanka because she had a tattoo from Buddha had a compensation.

The woman complained to the Sri Lankan authorities when she returned in Great Britain. Her stay in prison was horrible, by corrupt and intimidating staff. The court in Sri Lanka agreed with the woman that her treatment had been 'scandalous' and the arrest 'without a legal basis', reports the BBC.

A court had sent the woman out of the country because she might be unsafe if she would stay and Sri Lankans would feel insulted by the tattoo on her upper arm. About 70 percent of the 21 million Sri Lankans are Buddhists. However, there is no law prohibiting Buddha tattoos.

According to a Sri Lanka government website, the police officers involved must pay compensation themselves. The woman receives a total of nearly 5000 euros in total.
