France wants vignette for trucks

The French government wants to introduce a special toll for trucks that cross the country.

The minister says that it is not just about the environment, but also about extra money for investments in the infrastructure. He recalled the traffic bridge collapsed in Genoa in August. To prevent something like that also happening in France, investments are necessary.

The transport sector reacted immediately, because he no longer wants extra costs. A lot of toll is paid on French motorways. A few years ago, a special 'écotax' on heavy trucks fell as a result of protests after the French government invested hundreds of millions of euros in it.
