Fine to hang clothes hangers from Taiwan

The Chinese authorities imposed a fine on a company that declared Taiwan as 'country of origin' on packaging material.

Muji imported 119 clothes hangers last year. The packaging said that the products came from Taiwan, which Beijing sees as a renegade province. The authorities in Shanghai report that the packaging material has now been adjusted.

China is more likely to get hold of companies on such issues. In January, airline Delta offered apologies after describing Taiwan and Tibet as countries. The Chinese website of hotel chain Marriott International went black for a week due to a similar violation.
