saint-hubert, belgium - Seven detainees break out of Saint-Hubert prison, triggering a massive manhunt by police. This is the second major escape from the facility, with three recaptured and four still on the run.

Seven Prisoners Escape from Saint-Hubert Prison

A group of seven detainees managed to break free from the Saint-Hubert prison in Belgium around 4:30 p.m. local time. The breakout was discovered by prison staff, leading to an immediate alert and a search operation involving local and federal authorities.

Massive Manhunt Underway

Following the escape, a significant police operation was launched, with officers supported by a helicopter scouring the surrounding area. The facility, known for its high-security walls, is currently the center of intense police activity as efforts to locate the fugitives continue.

Past Escapes at Saint-Hubert

This incident is not the first escape from Saint-Hubert prison. In 2023, ten inmates also managed to flee the same facility, raising concerns about its security measures and management.

Minister Confirms Escape

Belgian Justice Minister Annelies Verlinden's office has confirmed the breakout, with three of the escapees already recaptured, albeit with injuries. However, details regarding the escape and the ongoing search for the remaining two fugitives are still limited.
