jerusalem - The guards of the six killed Israeli hostages have been identified. How did it end for them?

The army units of the 162nd Division killed the two shortly after the bodies of Hersh Goldberg-Polin (23), Alex Lubnov (32), Carmel Gat (39), Almog Sarusi (25), Eden Yerushalmi (24), and Ori Danino (25) were recovered on September 1.

The guards tried to escape from a tunnel near Rafah when they were killed by the soldiers, according to IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari.

With DNA samples, the army can prove that the two were with the six Israeli hostages. It is still being investigated whether they themselves murdered the six or if others were responsible. The six were kidnapped from Israel on October 7, 2023, and taken to the Gaza Strip.

The family of Carmel Gat thanked the soldiers. However, the family also criticized the Israeli government: 'Israel's victory will not be measured by the number of terrorists we eliminate, but by the number of hostages we bring home.'

'It would not have made a difference for Carmel whether the killers who murdered her or her mother were alive or dead. She would have wanted the hostages to come home alive,' the family added. 'Revenge does not offer comfort.'
