france, romania - Mohammed Amra, also known as 'de Vlieg', captured in Romania after a violent escape where two wardens died.

French Criminal 'de Vlieg' Arrested in Romania

A French prisoner, who was violently freed last year, has been apprehended in Romania. Known as Mohammed Amra, or 'de Vlieg', he was being transported to court when a armed gang freed him, resulting in the deaths of two wardens. French authorities link Amra to a major drug gang in Marseille, and he was heavily guarded as a suspect in a kidnapping and hostage case that led to fatalities. French President Emmanuel Macron hailed his arrest as a 'huge success'. French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau thanked Romania for their 'crucial cooperation'.

On May 14, 2024, Amra was on his way from prison to court when his van was ambushed by an armed gang. Two wardens were killed as the vehicle was rammed and shot at. Three others were injured. The attackers had two cars, one of which was found completely burnt out.
