gaza - Emily Damari recounts her 471-day captivity, describing the pain and suffering inflicted by Hamas militants.

Emily Damari's Horrific Ordeal

During her 471-day captivity by Hamas, Emily Damari endured excruciating pain due to injuries inflicted by the terrorists. She was kidnapped during a terror attack on October 7 and taken to Al Shifa Hospital in Gaza, where a person identifying themselves as 'Dr. Hamas' performed surgeries on her.

Damari recalls waking up to find two of her fingers amputated, with 'Dr. Hamas' informing her that a wound on her foot would remain open with minimal stitches. Despite the lack of proper medical care and only having an expired bottle of disinfectant, Damari miraculously avoided life-threatening infections.

Her mother describes the primitive manner in which Damari's nerves were connected, causing unbearable pain resembling a 'pincushion'. Following her release on January 19, Damari underwent a series of complex surgeries at Sheba Medical Centre to address the injuries sustained during her captivity.

While acknowledging her ongoing struggles with recovery, Damari expresses gratitude that the worst of the pain has subsided. She emphasizes the plight of remaining hostages in Gaza, highlighting the inhumane conditions created by Hamas.

Post-release statements reveal Hamas' use of tunnels beneath Al Shifa Hospital as hideouts and the confinement of hostages underground beneath the hospital premises.
