copenhagen - Denmark appreciates Trump's acknowledgment of Greenland's right to self-determination, highlighting the significance of the statement.

Trump Acknowledges Greenland's Self-Determination

Denmark finds it significant that President Donald Trump has recognized Greenland's right to self-determination. In a speech to the US Congress, Trump reiterated his desire to have the island under American control.

Greenland, a part of the Kingdom of Denmark, enjoys a high degree of autonomy. Both Denmark and Greenland emphasize that it is up to the Greenlanders to decide the island's future. Trump expressed support for their right to determine their own destiny and stated that Greenlanders are welcome in the US if they choose to come.

According to Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, this was the most crucial part of Trump's speech. Polls indicate that the majority of Greenlanders are against joining the US.

Trump also emphasized the US's need for Greenland for national and international security. He mentioned ongoing efforts to acquire the world's largest island, promising to protect and enrich its inhabitants. "We will take Greenland to heights you never imagined," he stated.
