ottawa - Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada apologized for sending a ship with Jews in 1939. The then government sent a boat away with Jews who wanted to escape the Nazis.

The MS St. Louis left Germany in 1939 with 907 Jews on board with destination Cuba. There, however, most of the passengers were not allowed to disembark. The ship had to return to Europe after the United States also refused to accept the refugees. A group of Canadians tried to persuade former Prime Minister King to have the ship moored in Halifax. When that did not work, the ship returned to Europe.
