sydney - War violence has cost the world over the past year 11.5 trillion. That's about 13 percent of the gross domestic product of the entire world. This enables the Australian based think tank Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) in the annual Peace Index (Global Peace Index).

The think tank noted in the claims over the past year the situation in countries where violent conflict raged, only getting worse and that in the relatively peaceful wealthy countries the situation is getting better. Also with regard to peace and security, inequality is increasing, says the think tank.

The institute has discovered barely ten countries in peace. These are countries where there are no violent conflicts and are not involved in wars elsewhere: Botswana, Chile, Costa Rica, Japan, Mauritius, Panama, Qatar, Uruguay, Vietnam and Switzerland.
