Israeli Newspaper Claims Secret Communication with Syrian Leader Bashar al-Assad via WhatsApp

israel, syria, russia, lebanon - An Israeli newspaper alleges that the Israeli intelligence service has been communicating with the deposed Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad via WhatsApp under the code name 'Musa'. The communication was reportedly established to coordinate airstrikes in Syria targeting Iranian and Hezbollah forces.

An Israeli newspaper, Yediot Ahronot, reported that the Tel Aviv administration has been secretly communicating with Syria's deposed leader Bashar al-Assad via WhatsApp. The report claims that the Israeli intelligence service has been communicating with senior officials of the deposed regime under the code name 'Musa' on WhatsApp.

The Military Intelligence Directorate of Israel (AMAN) allegedly established the contact with former Syrian Defense Minister Ali Mahmud Abbas after airstrikes targeting Iranian and Hezbollah targets in Syria. The report also mentions that former head of the Israeli Foreign Intelligence Service Mossad, Yossi Cohen, had planned to meet with Assad at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow at the end of 2019, but Assad reportedly canceled the meeting.

Furthermore, the report suggests that Israel has been trying to negotiate a secret agreement with the Assad regime to halt arms shipments to Lebanese Hezbollah in exchange for lifting international sanctions against the regime.
