brussels - The United States, the European Union proposed to appoint an ombudsman who deals with complaints from citizens about possible privacy violation. The proposal is part of discussions on a new international convention on the exchange and storage of data and personal information. This is reported by Reuters based on sources who are familiar with the talks.

Washington and Brussels are engaged in a race against time to conclude a deal on the protection of data of Europeans in the exchange of data between Europe and the US A new agreement is needed because the old Safe Harbour agreement has been invalidated by a ruling of the European Court of Justice. The court ruled that the data transfer of European data to the US no longer allowed by US companies, because the privacy rules in the US are inconsistent with the EU.
