UN: humanitarian emergency in Syria city

geneva - The humanitarian situation in the besieged Syrian city daraya,, is extremely dire '' for the 4,000 remaining inhabitants, the UN said Tuesday after a reconnaissance mission last week. The town southwest of the capital Damascus is occupied by rebels and surrounded by government forces.
There is daraya a severe shortage of food and medicine. The Syrian authorities have not responded, according to UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O'Brien to numerous requests to be allowed to deliver relief supplies into the besieged city, he said at a meeting in Geneva.
He says to maintain pressure on the Syrian government to have safe and unhindered access to daraya.
