- The number of billionaires increased to 2,769 in 2024, while hunger continues to rise. Oxfam predicts at least 5 trillionaires in the next decade.

Global Wealth Disparity

A recent report by Oxfam revealed that billionaires are accumulating wealth at an unprecedented rate, with the number of billionaires reaching 2,769 in 2024, marking an increase of 204 from the previous year. Despite this surge in billionaire wealth, the number of people living below the poverty line remains stagnant, while the count of those suffering from hunger is on the rise. Oxfam forecasts the emergence of at least 5 trillionaires globally within the next 10 years, a significant increase from the previous year's projection of just 1 individual.

Root Causes of Poverty

The report highlighted that 60% of billionaires' wealth is derived from inheritance, monopoly power, or patronage relationships. It emphasized the urgent need for solutions to address the deep-rooted causes of poverty and combat the widening wealth gap. Oxfam called for more effective policies to alleviate income inequality. These revelations, set to be discussed at the Davos Summit, will be a crucial topic in global economic disparity debates.
