ISTANBUL - The Turkish authorities have banned the celebration of Christmas in a German high school in Istanbul. It is the first time that this happens.

'The Turkish school has informed that from now on should not be told in the lessons and to work on Christmas traditions and the Christian party and that there should not be sung about,' according to an e-mail that the German department has received the Istanbul Lisesi.

The participation of the school choir at the traditional Christmas concert at the German consulate Tuesday was briefly interrupted by the Turkish leadership.
