mexico - Cruz Azul's head coach, Vicente Sanchez, celebrates the team's Concacaf Champions Cup win but faces uncertainty about his future with the Liga MX club.

Cruz Azul's Vicente Sanchez Future in Doubt After CCC Win

Cruz Azul's head coach, Vicente Sanchez, led the team to a remarkable 5-0 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps in the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup. Despite the triumph, Sanchez's future with the Liga MX club remains uncertain.

Sanchez's Interim Role and Success

Sanchez took over as Cruz Azul's interim manager during the 2025 Liga MX Clausura tournament in February, following Martin Anselmi's departure to FC Porto. Under Sanchez's guidance, the team secured third place in the Liga MX table with 33 points and a 9-6-2 record. Additionally, they reached the tournament's semifinals and clinched the prestigious CCC trophy.

Sanchez's Gratitude and Uncertainty

Following the CONCACAF Champions' Cup final, Sanchez expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and the fans' support. Despite the success, he remains uncertain about his future, stating, 'I live one day at a time, and I don't know what will happen tomorrow.'

He credited club president Victor Velazquez for trusting him and acknowledged the team's hard work that led to the title victory. However, the final decision regarding his position rests with the club management.

Player Support and Club's Historic Victory

Club captain Ignacio Rivero and player Lorenzo Faravelli voiced their support for Sanchez, emphasizing the team's unity and dedication. Despite the uncertainty, they stand by their coach and await the club's decision.

Cruz Azul's triumph in the Concacaf Champions Cup marked their seventh title in the competition's history, drawing level with America for the most wins. The victory, the first since 2013-14, showcases the team's resurgence and determination under Sanchez's leadership.
