italy - Violent protests erupted in different Italian cities over the death of a 19-year-old Egyptian man following a police chase, leading to injuries of ten agents. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned the violence.

A protest against the death of a young Egyptian man, Ramy Elgami, after a police chase in Italy turned violent in several cities, leaving ten agents injured. The mayor of Bologna, Matteo Lepore, denounced the destruction caused in the city, stating that it was not a political demonstration but sheer devastation. The Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni also condemned the violence, labeling it as an episode of disorder and chaos driven by revenge. She expressed solidarity with the police and wished the injured agents a speedy recovery.

The demonstrations involved several anti-racist organizations and were triggered by the death of Ramy Elgami, who was residing in Milan. The incident occurred when Elgami was riding on a scooter with a Tunisian friend who was speeding against traffic laws. Both youths had previous encounters with the law and disregarded police orders to stop, leading to a chase. The collision between the police car and the scooter resulted in Elgami's death.

An investigation is underway regarding the police officer driving the car involved in the accident. The lawyer representing the two youths suspects foul play, alleging that the police intentionally rammed the scooter.
