- Children of the 90s know it for sure: the Tamagotchi. Squeaky egg which was a virtual creature that had to be cared for, was a huge hype. And now they are back with a vengeance again.

Manufacturer Bandai has released six new versions in homeland Japan. The design is similar to the Tamagotchis of twenty years ago, but they have been in color. The goal is still to keep the critters alive by giving them food on time and pay attention. The biggest difference is that it is now possible to set the unit to pause.

When the first version was a hype, there is great consternation onstond precisely because the game could not be paused. Schools were also numerous Tamagotchis seized so they could not be used during class. This led to much grief because many of the digi-creatures did not survive the captivity.

The new editions are still only in Japan for sale. Here they cost 2000 yen (about € 17) each.
