salisbury - Pizzagate suspect Edgar Maddison Welch was shot dead by police after resisting arrest near his home in Salisbury, North Carolina. Welch had a history of involvement in a conspiracy theory related to a Washington pizzeria.

Pizzagate suspect Edgar Maddison Welch, aged 36, was fatally shot by police over the weekend following his resistance to arrest near his residence in Salisbury, North Carolina.

Police identified Welch's car on Saturday, and attempted to apprehend him due to an outstanding arrest warrant against the thirty-six-year-old. The reason for his warrant remains unclear. During the arrest, Welch, seated in the passenger seat of his car, brandished a firearm at the officer and refused to drop it. Consequently, the police opened fire, resulting in the death of the Pizzagate suspect.

Pizzagate was a conspiracy theory originating from the far-right circles in the United States. The theory suggested that Comet Ping Pong, a pizzeria in Washington, served as the headquarters of a satanic pedophile ring involving Hillary Clinton and other Democratic party figures. The alleged headquarters was believed to be located in the non-existent basement of the restaurant.

In 2016, Welch entered the pizzeria armed, threatened staff, and attempted to breach a locked door. This disturbing incident took place while many families were dining at the establishment. The police managed to convince Welch to surrender his weapon, and fortunately, no one was harmed. Welch was sentenced to four years in prison by the court and was released in 2020.
