berlin - Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the twelfth President of Germany. The 61-year-old SPD politician was Sunday by the electoral college of parliamentarians and representatives of the states with majority designated as successor Joachim Gauck. Steinmeier, who resigned this position as foreign minister, received 931 of the 1239 valid votes.

That would win the joint candidate of the CDU / CSU and SPD was already almost determined by the domination of the ruling coalition in the Bundestag and the Länder. Candidates from other parties were as expected no chance. Those were Christoph Butter Left (Die Linke), Albrecht Glaser (AfD), Engelbert Sonneborn (Pirates) and Alexander Hold on behalf of the 'free voters.
