maarheeze - An alcohol ban has been implemented in parts of the city center of Maarheeze (North Brabant) due to the nuisance caused by alcohol consumption on the streets.

An alcohol ban has been implemented in parts of the city center of Maarheeze (North Brabant) due to the nuisance caused by alcohol consumption on the streets. The municipality of Cranendonck stated that alcohol use in specific areas of the center leads to significant disturbances.

According to the municipality, people bother passersby, residents, and business owners. They also litter the area with waste and engage in public urination. The police already have the authority to intervene, but the municipality believes it is advisable for them to take preventive actions against alcohol consumption in designated areas.

The ban does not apply on holidays and during events with permits. The streets where the ban is enforced in the city center are listed on the municipality's website. The ban is effective immediately and will be valid until December 31st of this year.

On Wednesday, the Dutch Railways (NS) mentioned considering bypassing the Maarheeze train station due to disruptive behavior by asylum seekers from the Budel asylum center. It is unclear if the alcohol ban measure is related to this issue. A municipal spokesperson was not available for immediate comment.
