Chelsea Signs Ellie Carpenter from OL Lyonnes

Chelsea FC has officially confirmed the acquisition of Australia international defender Ellie Carpenter from French club OL Lyonnes in the Women's Super League (WSL).

Reunion with Coach Sonia Bompastor

The 25-year-old has penned a four-year contract with Chelsea and is reunited with head coach Sonia Bompastor, who made the move from Lyonnes to Chelsea last year.

Impressive Career Achievements

Carpenter, who made her Australia debut at 15, became the youngest woman to compete in football at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro at just 16 years old. She has clinched league titles in four of her five years in France and has lifted the Champions League trophy twice.

Excitement at Chelsea

Expressing her enthusiasm, Carpenter stated, "I'm really excited about this new challenge; it's a new adventure. It feels like the right move for me, and I can't wait to get started and give my all for this club."

Chelsea's head of women's football, Paul Green, praised Carpenter's experience and winning mentality, highlighting her success in the Champions League. He described her as an athletic full back who adds depth to the team's talent pool.

The signing of Carpenter comes on the heels of Canada's Ashley Lawrence moving to OL Lyonnes, showcasing the ongoing transfer activity in women's football.
