mexico city/washington - Mexico extradites 29 drug traffickers to the US, including prominent cartel leaders, in response to economic threats from the Trump administration.

Major Extradition of Drug Traffickers

In a significant move to avoid economic repercussions from the Trump administration, Mexico has extradited 29 drug traffickers to the United States. The majority of these criminals belong to the six Mexican cartels recently designated as terrorist organizations by Washington.

Mexican security experts were taken by surprise by this unprecedented mass extradition. The action involved a joint operation by various Mexican authorities and was carried out in response to a request from the US Department of Justice.

Among the extradited individuals is Rafael Caro Quintero, a notorious figure in the drug trade with ties to the Guadalajara cartel. The US has sought his extradition since 1985 for the murder of DEA agent Enrique 'Kiki' Camarena.

Trump's threats of tariff increases prompted a crackdown by Mexican security forces, resulting in a surge of arrests of cartel members and the confiscation of drugs and weapons. The extradition of these individuals is seen as part of this heightened enforcement.

The US has expressed intent to impose the death penalty on Caro Quintero, who maintains his innocence in the murder case.

Prominent Figures Extradited

Other prominent figures extradited include Miguel Ángel and Omar Treviño Morales, former leaders of the Northeast Cartel, as well as Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, brother of the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

The extradition of these individuals marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and organized crime in the region.
