ranst/wijnegem - A 20-year-old Belgian woman, Sharon Serneels, discovered a stone instead of a gaming console in the box of her brand new PlayStation 5, purchased from MediaMarkt. Her story highlights potential risks for holiday shoppers.

A 20-year-old Belgian woman, Sharon Serneels, recently found a stone instead of a gaming console in the box of her brand new PlayStation 5, purchased from MediaMarkt.

Sharon's mother, Saskia Vangestel, shared the incident on Facebook, emphasizing the importance of checking purchased items, especially during holiday seasons.

Sharon, a working student, purchased the PlayStation with her first earnings, intending it as a gift for herself and her boyfriend.

After opening the box, Sharon was shocked to find a stone wrapped as a PlayStation, carefully concealed to mimic the weight of the actual product.

Concerned about the potential impact on other buyers, Sharon and her father alerted MediaMarkt, where they were promptly given a replacement unit.

MediaMarkt Wijnegem staff cooperated in providing a new PlayStation, but another box also contained a stone, raising questions about the source of these discrepancies.

Sharon's ordeal ended with a third box containing the genuine gaming console, urging others to inspect their purchases vigilantly.

MediaMarkt acknowledged the incidents but could not provide immediate explanations for the thefts or the extent of such occurrences.
