- Manchester United set to compete with Chelsea for Ipswich striker Liam Delap as solution to goalscoring issues, sources reveal.

Manchester United Targets Liam Delap

Manchester United is gearing up to compete with Chelsea in the race to sign Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap this summer as a solution to their goalscoring problems, according to sources.

Liam Delap's Performance

Liam Delap, 22, has scored 12 goals in 30 Premier League games for Ipswich Town since his £20 million transfer from Manchester City last summer.

Financial Aspects

  • Manchester United faces financial constraints due to job cuts and efficiency measures imposed by the club's hierarchy.
  • United is looking to stabilize finances and avoid breaching the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Competition and Transfer Details

Despite a £40 million clause for Manchester City to re-sign Delap, City is unlikely to trigger it, leaving the door open for other clubs to pursue the talented forward.

Delap has emerged as United's preferred target over Gyökeres, Sesko, and Osimhen due to cost, age profile, and proven Premier League record.

Competition from Other Clubs

Delap may also attract interest from Champions League clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea, with Enzo Maresca at Chelsea having worked with Delap at City's Academy.
