Luigi Mangione, the suspect in the deadly shooting of Brian Thompson, CEO of health insurer UnitedHealthcare, pleads 'not guilty' to the charges of murder and terrorism.

Monday's hearing was Mangione's first opportunity to formally respond to the accusations from the US Attorney's Office.

The 26-year-old Mangione is being tried in New York on eleven charges. He could face the death penalty if found guilty of the federal murder charge.

Earlier this month, Brian Thompson, the head of UnitedHealth insurer, was shot dead on the street in New York. The police launched a manhunt for the shooter and arrested Mangione five days later at a McDonald's in Pennsylvania.

According to the police, 26-year-old Mangione had a manifesto with him when he was apprehended. In it, he reportedly described his frustrations with the American healthcare system and insurers. Mangione reportedly complained that the United States has the most expensive healthcare system in the world, but life expectancy lags far behind other Western countries. He attributed this to large companies prioritizing profits over the well-being of patients.
