syria, turkey, france, us - The PKK/YPG-backed illegitimate administration in northern Syria is seeking support from the US and France as Turkey threatens a military operation if no agreement is reached with Damascus. Calls have been made to deploy military forces to secure the border.

The PKK/YPG-backed illegal administration in northern Syria is feeling the pressure from Turkey's threat of a military operation in the absence of an agreement with Damascus, turning to the US and France for support. With no positive signals received from the upcoming Trump administration scheduled to take office on January 20, the PYD/YPG structure is trying to involve France, a traditional supporter of Kurdish movements, in its efforts.

In a statement to French TV5 Monde, Ilham Ahmed, responsible for foreign relations of the PYD/YPG-dominated SDF, called on France to send troops to the border to help secure the demilitarized zone, protect the region, and establish good relations with Turkey. Ahmed expressed hope that if France can convince Turkey to accept their presence at the border, it could lead to the initiation of a peace process.

Antony Blinken's visit to Paris as the outgoing US Secretary of State coincided with Ahmed's statements. During a joint press conference, Blinken emphasized the need for the gradual integration of the SDF into a renewed national army and the continued responsibility of the SDF in detaining over 10,000 ISIS militants, a crucial security interest for both the US and Turkey.

Sebastian Gorka, appointed as the counterterrorism chief by President-elect Donald Trump, emphasized the importance of allowing foreign ISIS fighters held in Syria to return to their countries. Gorka highlighted the need for strong allies to act responsibly and repatriate these individuals.
