- What requirements must an e-reader to be good? A good screen is certainly important. Great built-in lighting is also important, as well as a long battery life. But now we have all this already, and then also for a decent price. What does the Kindle from Amazon Oasis that we have to buy these super deluxe e-reader?

Let me come straight to the point: the Kindle Oasis costs almost € 300. Indeed, as you can now buy a brand new iPad for. The question is exactly what Amazon has to offer that justifies the hefty asking price.

Let's start by saying that the greater part of the specifications of the Oasis are similar to those of the White Paper. The screen is six inches tall, has the same resolution and also offers the same software and online features, including convenient option anywhere to read your purchased books. On paper, there are really only two differences. First, the Oasis has ten LEDs for illuminating the screen instead of the four on the Paperwhite. This creates something neater illumination over the entire screen with fewer dark 'spots'. Not that this was a huge problem with his little brother, but when you put them together, you can see the difference though.

A slightly more important difference is the addition of two physical buttons next to the screen. These are used to scroll back also reflected in the book. In Paperwhite to do this on the touch screen.

It sounds like a small change, but frankly I found the buttons work much better than you scroll the display itself. Because it takes more physical effort to push the button then tapping on the screen, I flipped accidentally skipping ahead a page before I finished the page, as I was on the Paperwhite still do that again.

The main difference with other Kindles- and other e-readers in general- is the design of the Oasis. All major hardware is in fact stopped at one side of the device, making all the weight sitting there. That does not mean that your device but can stick one way. The image tilts as you turn the Oasis, so ambidextrous can with the device feet.

The consequence of this design choice is that this e-reader is very good in the hand. Almost all the weight namely sits in the palm of your hand, allowing you to hold him even lying fine with one hand behind your back. Nice for bed so.

While there for years cases are available for Kindles, the Oasis comes standard with one. And what a! Upon review copy was a gorgeous red leather case that the unit gave the appearance of a beautiful, old book. It's a detail, but it looks very luxurious. What also is allowed for that price!

Even more important is the fact that the case has a built-in battery. This useful life is almost doubled. Amazon does not give hard numbers, but says the Oasis lasts combined with the case 'months'. During the test period (about two weeks), I read an hour battery not even drawn a quarter empty, so I want to believe that.

Case- and hence the extra battery- can be easily attached with a magnet on the Kindle itself.

The Kindle Oasis currently costs € 289.99 at Amazon. That's quite a hefty price, especially considering other models offered by the company itself.

Thus, the Kindle Paperwhite offers € 119.99 for almost all the same benefits, only the device itself is slightly clumsier and less refined. Want to go a little more luxurious than the Kindle Voyage is also for € 189.99.

Archrival Kobo does not have a real competitor to the Oasis- probably the first company looks whether there is demand for such luxurious and expensive e-reader. Glo HD (€ 129) is more of a competitor to the Paperwhite and Kobo Aura H2O (€ 177) is intended for the badlezers, since the device is waterproof.

Kindle Oasis is undoubtedly the most beautiful and best e-reader I've ever tested. But if you look at the price tag, you can of course also. The device is lightweight, has a great screen and can be called in design chic, especially in combination with the case.

But yes, € 290! For that price you can almost buy an iPad, where you can also read on, but what more can join. Admittedly, the reading experience is not as good as on the Kindle, but still...

Honestly I can therefore recommend him for the real book devourers who want the best of the best. Because you get absolutely the Kindle Oasis.
