israel, gaza, west bank, beirut - Israel suspends the release of 620 Palestinian prisoners, causing a crisis in the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Hamas and Israel clash over the reasons for the suspension.

Israel Halts Release of Palestinian Prisoners

Israel has suspended the release of 620 Palestinian prisoners as part of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, citing Hamas' behavior during the handover of Israeli hostages. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the release will be postponed until guarantees are made to prevent further humiliation of Israeli hostages. Hamas condemned the decision, accusing Israel of seeking excuses to avoid its obligations.

First Deployment of Israeli Tanks in West Bank Since 2002

Following the ceasefire and hostage exchange agreement with Hamas in Gaza, Israel has initiated a military operation in the occupied West Bank, deploying tanks for the first time in 23 years. The Israeli Defense Forces announced the deployment of a tank division in the northern West Bank, with plans to enter Jenin.

Calls for Annexation of West Bank Grow

Israeli Parliament Speaker Amir Ohana advocated for the annexation of the West Bank, emphasizing the need for new settlements as the only path to peace. Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced the displacement of 40,000 Palestinian civilians from refugee camps in Jenin, Tulkarem, and Nablus, stating that the military will remain in the camps indefinitely.

Illegal Settlements Expand in the West Bank

The Palestine Liberation Organization's report revealed a 44.5% increase in Israeli-controlled areas in the West Bank, with the number of illegal Israeli settlers reaching approximately 740,000 by 2024. The PLO called for international intervention to address these illegal settlements and reiterated the need for a two-state solution.

Hezbollah Leader's Funeral Draws Tensions

A funeral ceremony for former Hezbollah Secretary-General Hasan Nasrallah, killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on September 27, was held in Beirut. Israeli warplanes conducted low-altitude flights over the city during the ceremony, while Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz warned of consequences for those threatening Israel.

Hezbollah Leaders Reaffirm Commitment

Hizbullah Secretary-General Naim Qassem, who sent a video message instead of attending the funeral, vowed to continue Nasrallah's path. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf also participated in the ceremony.
