amsterdam - A rare celestial event involving Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus, Neptune, Mercury, and Saturn visible after sunset.

Rare Celestial Event

A 'planetary parade' featuring Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, Venus, Neptune, Mercury, and Saturn can be observed shortly after sunset. This phenomenon, described as a unique alignment, is a rare celestial event that may not occur again until 2040. The event is expected to be visible in the evenings of this Wednesday, Thursday, and possibly Friday. To witness this spectacle, observers are advised to find a location with a clear view of the sky, free from obstructing factors like mist. Utilizing various apps, individuals can determine the specific timing of the event based on their location.

According to astronomer Dr. Edward Bloomer from the Royal Museums Greenwich, viewers have only a brief window of opportunity post-sunset to observe these planets before they disappear below the horizon. Among the planets, Mars stands out due to its distinct red hue, while Venus and Jupiter appear quite bright. Saturn, on the other hand, may pose a challenge to spot as it is positioned low on the horizon. Dr. Bloomer notes that although Uranus is technically visible to the naked eye, optimal viewing conditions are necessary to discern it.

Dr. Bloomer recommends allowing approximately thirty minutes for stargazing preparation. He emphasizes the importance of adjusting to the ambient light levels by giving your eyes time to adapt. Rushing from an indoor setting, such as a kitchen, to an outdoor space requires this acclimatization period of around thirty minutes to fully adjust to the dark.
