US Aircraft Carrier Collides with Turkish Cargo Ship

An incident occurred in the Mediterranean near Egypt's Port Said, where the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman collided with the Turkish cargo ship BEŞİKTAŞ-M. The collision, which took place on Wednesday night around 11:46 pm, resulted in no casualties and no significant damage to the ships. According to US 6th Fleet spokesperson, Colonel Timothy Gorman, the aircraft carrier did not take on water, and its propulsion systems were not affected. The Turkish cargo ship, owned by Synergy Ship Management, was en route from Port Said to Constanta, Romania, but no further information was provided about its condition.

Investigation Launched

The Pentagon confirmed the incident, stating that the USS Harry S. Truman collided with M/V BESIKTAS-M near Port Said on Wednesday around 11:45 pm. An investigation into the collision is ongoing. The US Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman, with a length of 333 meters, is capable of accommodating approximately 90 aircraft. In 2023, the US had deployed the aircraft carrier to the Red Sea as part of a multinational maritime task force against Houthi forces. The bulk carrier BESIKTAS-M, built in Japan in 2003, has a length of 188.5 meters, a width of 32 meters, and a tonnage of 53,020 tons.
