riyad - During a historic meeting, President Trump pushes for Syria's Ahmed al-Sharaa to normalize relations with Israel and take responsibility for detention centers with IS prisoners.

Trump Urges Syrian Leader al-Sharaa to Recognize Israel

President Trump becomes the first U.S. leader in 25 years to meet a Syrian leader, encouraging Ahmed al-Sharaa to acknowledge Israel. The meeting, attended by the Saudi Crown Prince and virtually by Turkish President Erdogan, also addresses the issue of detention centers with IS prisoners in Syria.

Diplomatic Success for al-Sharaa

The encounter marks a diplomatic victory for al-Sharaa, who previously faced a $10 million bounty from the U.S. before charges were dropped. Formerly associated with al-Qaeda, al-Sharaa distanced himself from the terrorist group in 2016, aiming for a more moderate image.

Sanctions Lifted on Syria

President Trump announces the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime. This decision contrasts with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's call to maintain the sanctions, viewing the new Syrian leadership as jihadist. Trump's recent actions, including a ceasefire agreement with the Houthi rebels in Yemen, have surprised Israel.

Trump's international trip includes visits to Qatar and the UAE, with no plans to visit Israel. The President's diplomatic moves in the Middle East continue to spark discussions and reactions from regional leaders.
