'Puigdemont quickly under conditions free'

berlin - The Belgian lawyer of the Catalan politician Carles Puigdemont thinks that his client will be released under certain conditions in the short term. Puigdemont would then be able to freely await the handling of the international arrest warrant issued against him, lawyer Paul Bekaert told the Belga news agency.

The German police stopped the former prime minister of Catalonia after crossing the border from Denmark. According to Bekaert, Puigdemont traveled in a car to avoid checks at airports. The lawyer does not exclude that the Spanish authorities have tipped their German colleagues. Spain has issued a European arrest warrant against the separatist.

Bekaert told Belga that he will remain the lawyer of Puigdemont, even now that his client is stuck in Germany.
