French Pedo-Surgeon Faces 20 Years in Prison

A 74-year-old former surgeon in France, already serving a 15-year sentence for abusing four young girls, now faces an additional 20-year prison term for sexually abusing nearly 300 patients, most of whom were minors at the time. The abuse took place while patients were under anesthesia or recovering from surgery.

During the trial, the accused stressed the separation between his surgical work and his criminal activities. He admitted to using his status to commit sexual assaults on patients but claimed it did not interfere with his medical procedures.

The trial also shed light on the personal life of the accused. His ex-wife revealed that she was unaware of the abuse for years, indicating a culture of secrecy within the family. The accused's younger sister testified that their father, who had a history of abuse, influenced the family's silence regarding such crimes.

The accused's confession of sexually abusing his own granddaughter led to a suspension of the trial. The victims are set to testify in March, while the final verdict is expected in June.
