australia - Socceroos veterans Behich and Degenek gear up for the World Cup after securing automatic qualification, aiming for success in North America with ample preparation time and friendly matches.

Socceroos Primed for Deep World Cup Run

Steeled by twice securing World Cup qualification via the long route, Socceroos veterans Aziz Behich and Milos Degenek are optimistic about a successful World Cup campaign following their auto-qualification this time.

Advantage of Auto-Qualification

Behich and Degenek, who were part of the squads in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, experienced intercontinental playoffs but now enjoy a different path after Behich's decisive goal against Japan secured automatic qualification.

The Socceroos now have ample time to prepare for the tournament in North America, including friendly matches against various teams.

Preparation and Bonding

Behich expressed relief at avoiding playoffs, emphasizing the value of extended preparation time for the team, similar to the experience before the Russia World Cup. Degenek highlighted the opportunity for the team to work on improving their performance and cohesion.

Upcoming Matches

The Socceroos are set to play a send-off match against Curacao at AAMI Park, followed by friendlies against Mexico and a European opponent before the World Cup commences on June 11.

Coach Tony Popovic is keen on facing Curacao, acknowledging the challenges posed by an unfamiliar opponent with a distinct playing style.
