london - British playwright Peter Shaffer who got an Oscar for 'Amadeus' and 'Equus' wrote on Monday at the age of ninety in County Cork in Ireland deceased from pneumonia.

Shaffer began his career in 1954 with The Salt Land 'for the BBC, and comedies followed as 'The Private Ear and The Public Eye.' His drama 'Equus' in 1975 won numerous awards, including a Tony Award, like his drama 'Amadeus' in 1981. For the film version of Amadeus Shaffer won an Oscar in 1985. Amadeus is this autumn brought back on stage by the National Theatre in London.
