- Peace Consultations on Yemen on Sunday after five days in Switzerland demolished virtually fruitless. It is January 14th retried. The UN special envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, has said that this round of talks has ended. It is not clear where further dialogue in January.
A cease-fire in Yemen that these talks would come into force, was not respected everywhere. The first calls to stop the bloody war had ended in June in Switzerland without result.
The struggle between the parties in Yemen is becoming bloodier by the heavy air raids carried out by Saudi Arabia and allies. Saudi Arabia has moved against rebels in northern Yemen. Who call themselves Houthi rebels. They are from the Zaydi population that accounts for an estimated 40 percent of the population. Saudi Arabia sees in that population group that is not a threat because Sunni and support from Iran would enjoy.
